AkuScale LLC ("AkuScale," "we," "us," or "our") operates the AkuScale property management platform accessible at akuscale.com and app.akuscale.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our services.
By using AkuScale, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and password (stored using industry-standard encryption).
Property and portfolio data: Property addresses, unit details, lease terms, tenant information, and financial records you enter into the platform.
Tenant information: Names, email addresses, and phone numbers of tenants you add to the platform. Tenants are informed of this when they receive portal invitations.
Payment information: Subscription billing is processed by Stripe. We do not store full credit card numbers. Bank account connections are processed by Plaid under their own privacy policy.
Usage data: Log data including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps, used to maintain security and improve the platform.
Communications: When you contact us via email or support, we retain those communications to resolve issues and improve our service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the AkuScale platform
- To send account-related notifications (rent reminders, maintenance updates, lease alerts) via email and SMS
- To process subscription payments through Stripe
- To generate financial reports and portfolio analytics
- To improve and personalize the platform experience
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud or security incidents
- To comply with legal obligations
3. SMS Communications
AkuScale sends SMS notifications to landlords, property managers, and tenants who have provided their phone numbers and opted in to SMS communications. Message types include:
- Rent payment reminders and receipts
- Maintenance request status updates
- Lease expiration and renewal alerts
- Account security notifications (two-factor authentication codes)
- System and account alerts
Message frequency varies based on account activity. Standard message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any SMS message. Reply HELP for assistance. Opting out of SMS does not affect your ability to use the platform.
4. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: Stripe (payment processing), Plaid (bank connections), Twilio (SMS delivery), SendGrid (email delivery), OpenAI and Anthropic (AI features). These providers process data under their own privacy policies and only as needed to provide services.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of AkuScale, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, with notice provided to affected users.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at privacy@akuscale.com. Certain data may be retained for legal, tax, or fraud prevention purposes after account deletion.
6. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted password storage (scrypt), two-factor authentication, rate limiting, and regular security audits. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information; object to or restrict processing; and data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@akuscale.com. Residents of California may have additional rights under the CCPA.
8. Cookies and Tracking
AkuScale uses session cookies to maintain your login state and CSRF protection tokens. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. Analytics, if used, are first-party only.
9. Children's Privacy
AkuScale is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Your continued use of AkuScale after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
